Feliz Navidad Eve!

This year we had been hoping to go to Georgia for Christmas, but I couldn’t get work off so we ended up staying around here for the holidays. Originally I was miffed about the whole ordeal but our Christmas turned out to be all cozy and Christmasy anyway.

It all started with the crazy snowfall of a couple weeks ago: our ward Christmas party was scheduled for that night, but since it was snowing so abundantly the party was postponed until Christmas Eve, which we had originally planned to spend with a couple families in the branch. That plan was cancelled, though, since we’d been asked to play a musical number for the party and were thus obliged to attend.

So Christmas Eve we went to the ward Christmas party. On the way there we went to pick up a couple investigators for the party, which turned out to be pretty cool because they were completely separate investigators of the sister missionaries but once they got in the car and introduced themselves, they found out that they were from the exact same little town in Guatemala and spoke the same dialect (neither speaks Spanish entirely fluently).

We got to the chapel, performed O Holy Night and Silver Bells (I did that one with another sister), and took off because we figured since we weren’t going to be spending the evening at our friends’ house, we would go home and skype with Jacob’s family.

Which we did. His family has a party every Christmas Eve inviting practically the whole branch and having a little music concert in their living room. So this year we participated via skype, aka we sang a song and played a trombone and listened to everyone else doing their wonderful music as well. It was a good time.

Jacob and I also enjoyed reading the Christmas story in Luke 2. We kept on going and read some of the prophecies in 1 Nephi 11, Mosiah 3 and Helaman 14. All the holy prophets have always testified of Christ and we add our testimonies to theirs that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and lived and died to save us from our sins. Merry Christmas everyone!

  1. Glad you had a great Christmas Eve even though it didn’t turn out like you expected. We’re glad we got to hear some singing and trombone-playing while we were there.
