Slowing down

So I was frazzled yesterday morning, late for work (luckily my last last day is July 1), frustrated about all the running around I would have to do with different errands, and in a general snafu about everything. In family prayer Jacob asked that I would be able to find a way to slow down and enjoy the day.

Long story short (and it is a very long story about how I ended up where I was on my way to work), I had just pulled out onto Broad St when I heard a familiar whump whump whump! It sounded like the tire so I pulled into the first parking lot to check it out, and sure enough it was a flat tire.

Nothing like a flat tire to slow you down! As soon as it happened all the pressure from the morning was relieved and I felt so much better about my day! I knew instantly that the Lord had flattened my tire to make me slow down because I wasn’t doing a good job of it on my own.

To top it all off, the Lord didn’t make it a very costly flat tire. Luckily the parking lot I pulled into was Sam’s with a tire shop, so they took a look at it and said the valve stem had broken (no puncture like I thought). So they put a new one on, rotated the tires for 15 bucks, and sent me on my way. The Lord taught me a lesson without making me pay for it too dearly.

I texted my boss and didn’t end up having to go to work at all, so I was able to go home, take a nap, and generally take it easy and take care of the other errands of the day more calmly.

Everything that came into play yesterday morning and how I ended up in Sam’s of all places (which is not on my normal route to work) made me 100% sure that the Lord was giving a direct answer to our family prayer with a flat tire. And I’m so grateful!

  1. I’m glad you pulled into Sam’s. The Lord was really watching out for you. And I’m glad you were able to slow down. You’re a busy woman and with a new baby it makes everything crazy!

  2. This sounds like a Ensign/Liahona story. I am very impressed that your stress level went down and not up with a flat tire. Mine definitely would have gone up. Thanks for sharing!
