The Tingens

Jacob, Tonya and Natalie

Finally a small update on the Tingens. I’m not much of a blogger and haven’t really put in any interesting opinions or life commentaries, so the little updates will have to do.

Jacob

Jacob is on week 6 of bar review; the 2-day exam is scheduled for July 26 and 27 somewhere west of here. He’s going with the friend from Charlottesville. This bar review process makes law school look like a piece of cake! At the beginning of law school they had an orientation for families saying “Well, you probably won’t be seeing as much of your loved one anymore. Law school will eat them up.” I think that orientation would be more appropriate before bar prep. Jacob’s pretty much studying at the library from 9 to 5, coming home, then studying from 8-12 and beyond. Including Saturdays.

But it’s nice we got bikes, because he’s been biking to the library, almost 14 miles a day. He hides in the corner of the basement so no one has to be around him after he’s been biking and sweating, but it’s been good for exercise and saving money on gas.

Tonya

I’m 4 months along with the baby you saw in the ultrasound, and we find out July 12 if it’s a boy or a girl! I’m not making any guesses on this one because last time I was totally convinced it was a boy and it was a weird feeling to find out all of a sudden that it was a girl. We love Natalie!

This week I’m finishing up a translation project I got from BYUTV International. I’m basically translating the script of four 1-hour shows into Spanish, all episodes of a documentary called Turning Point about charity organizations that help people turn their lives around in some way. (You can see it on byutv.org in English right now.) It’s been taking about 20 hours a week for 4 weeks, so I’m glad to be done and not putting Natalie to play in the crib so much by herself anymore. One of my friends from church has been so helpful reviewing them with me since I’m not a native Spanish speaker.

Natalie

Natalie is going to be 15 months here pretty soon! She has no teeth but eats like she has a mouthful of them–all kinds of meat, potatoes, rice, black beans–she loves those–spaghetti, cheese–also loves that–bagels, sandwiches, fruits, vegetables, ice cream (just once for Father’s Day), etc.

She can walk and stand holding onto furniture, and I’m pretty darn sure she could do it on her own (she’s balanced standing free a few times), but she is sticking to crawling for now. We have this little keychain of monkeys in a barrel, and she loves taking the little monkeys out and putting them back in, or putting them in other containers. She loves anything with buttons, including the piano. She also likes reading books, especially the Sesame Street one about opposites–she gets a real kick out of it when I whisper “quiet” on Bert’s page then shout and bang “LOUD!” on Ernie’s page. She loves being with other kids and on Sunday after church she was shrieking with delight chasing/being chased by other kids in the hallway.

  1. For being ‘not much of a blogger,’ this is a great post! 14 miles a day on the bike!?!? Way to go, Jacob! I hope that studying pays off bigtime.

Thanks for the stories and the pictures. We love you!!!

  2. And congratulations, Tonya, for finishing the translation project! That is very cool they would think enough of you to ask, you being thousands of miles away and three years gone.

  3. So…Natalie likes spaghetti…she eats like Holly used to. 🙂

Go Jacob! You dominate that bar! Good grief, I can’t imagine studying that hard for multiple months.

Tonya, great post and pictures! I think the bike ride one is very funny.

  4. Man, so many good things it’s impossible to comment on them all. Good luck with the bar (both to Jacob on studying and Tonya with taking care of everything else while he studies!)
