The Tingens

My Grandpa: G.B. Warren

After the bar exam was finally over, we went to spend some time in Georgia with my family. We had a lot of fun, relaxing, and good times. We want to give a big thanks to everyone who let us stay at their house or who fed us and spent time with us. It was a much needed break from our normal life.

One of the things that we did on the trip was record some of the stories from my grandfather’s life–all of which I’ve decided to post here. My grandfather is 92 years old and he’s lived through a lot. During the stories I learned a lot about my grandfather that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Some of the more interesting things I didn’t know are:

  • A skunk stunk up his helmet during WWII
  • He once started a restaurant
  • He was such a sharp shooter that he could light a match with a bullet – see mythbusters
  • His dad was 60 when he was born

I’ve posted some pictures and audio below. For family in particular, let me know if you need help downloading audio to your computer. I imagine a lot of you would like to have your own copies, and I like the idea of there being several places where this stuff is stored. I also took one video which I’ve put at the bottom of this post.

Audio Files

I was originally going to split the audio files up into stories which I may do some day. For now, these are split up into about 8 to 10 minutes segments. I’m going to try and put in some detail about which stories are told on each day so you can get a sense of what is told where.

Day One:

Early childhood stories – date of birth, stories with brothers and sisters. Talks about how his mom was in a coma for three days, went to heaven and was told she needed to come back and raise her boys. Growing up on a farm. His dad was 60 when he was born.

  1. Thanks J! I loved watching that video of Papaw! I was just telling the boys this morning that if this baby is a boy, we’re naming him GB after Papaw and it was fun to show them who I’d been talking about. I can’t wait to listen to all the rest of the stories, too!

  2. that is a great undertaking to record all of these stories and memories. I especially like the WW II skunk story. Probably since we spent a year studying World War II in order to prepare for Pearl Harbor.
Glad you have the computer skills for saving all of this too
