The Tingens

Jacob Tingen, Entrepreneur

I’m totally going to brag about Jacob here and I’m going to lay it on thick. But he deserves it!

It’s true Jacob went to law school and practices law, but I don’t think I’ll ever say I married a lawyer–I definitely married a very motivated entrepreneur! Thinking about all the stuff he’s up to, in addition to his church work, I am so amazed at the time he devotes to his family! We’re  so glad when Daddy comes home! He is one talented fellow.

Here are some of his cool ventures…

web design. His web design launch site is pixelproquo.com, but he’s done a bunch of sites–for a VA nonprofit, for small businesses, for university professors, for his own stuff. He’s always tinkering with web stuff.

law firm. Good With Laws, PLLC. He would call this his “day job.” Pretty impressive that he built it all on his own, from passing the bar to registering his trademark to creating a pretty slick website to actually getting a client base and going to court. (And thanks to the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for collaborating so well and providing temporary office space!) In fact, today he went to DC for his first full hearing in immigration court (previous court appearances have been more low-key). Unfortunately the car broke down and he never made it, but the judge gave it a two-year continuance so the case is closed until 2015 anyway. Ha! Probably as much as he could have hoped for if he had made it to court. What a crazy legal system. Anyway, after replacing the broken part Jacob is now stuck in 95 southbound traffic during rush hour so I hope he has something good to listen to… 🙂

motivational business counseling. Planea, Ejectua y Gana. He’s in this with a couple friends from church, making a set of motivational and instructional DVDs in Spanish for the Latino community on how to be successful and start your own business. They’re also going to go around doing conferences and presentations and the like.

writing. JacobDunn.com. Even his hobby is a venture! His awesome book Shadowhero is on Amazon in three parts and is actually doing pretty well. Teen Exorcist part 1 is also up…now he’s working on finishing that one. I really enjoy reading his work and seeing his writing get better. I especially enjoy seeing other people enjoy his work as well! I didn’t know if that would ever happen, because no agents from traditional publishing companies have picked up his stuff, but turns out self-publishing on Amazon is what did the trick.

Really I think the main thing I need to say is that the Lord has blessed Jacob with talents and he is using those to bless the lives of others, especially his family. To me, he lives Matthew 5:14-16. Praise God, from whom all blessings flow!
