A lot has happened lately since we went to the March for Marriage. It’s all been very hush hush, which is why we haven’t posted it to our blog until now. Here goes…

Just this last weekend we went to the Que Pasa Latino Festival in downtown richmond

It was located on the historic canal walk in downtown richmond. We started at one end of the canal walk and made our way to the festival which is where we ran into this bridge.

There were actually a whole bunch of murals. This one was my favorite.

They were giving free boat roads down the canal at the Que Pasa festival

I tried to open the eggs and show here there was chocolate inside. She didn’t get it at first and just wanted me to leave her eggs alone.

I just love this kid.

Natalie loves that penguin. When she got it on her birthday she just walked around, waving its flipper and saying “Hello penguin.”

The candles for her 2 year old birthday kind of freaked her out.

We thought we’d try to grow avocado trees from the seeds–something we read online–but I don’t think it’s been warm enough lately for them to grow.

Natalie discovered ipods and headphones and the rest is history… She wouldn’t let us show her how to fit the earbuds in her ear and insisted on holding them up herself. Two-year-olds. Sheesh!

Tonya went to visit Brent and Jenny and Julia and Ryan a couple of weeks ago. They stopped at the temple visitors center on the way up.

And of course, we have to get Hazel with the temple too.

We decided to run a 10k together. This is the before picture.

This is the after picture. We actually ran the whole way.

Aiden liked looking at the animals too. Apparently, Tonya and Heidi and kids and other people and their kids went to Maymont park which is an estate that’s like the richmond version of Downtown Abbey. The people at Maymont died in the mid 1900s without any heirs and so they donated the property to the city of Richmond. It’s a pretty awesome park, and wild to think someone owned it all.

Tonya is always making signs for me for special events. I thought I would try to make a sign for when Tonya and the girls came back from Philadelphia. My signs aren’t as good as Tonya’s.

We also went to Roanoke. That’s where this picture was taken. Hazel and Anna are playing together. Our friends who went to UVA law school now live in Roanoke and it had been awhile since we hung out with them. It was nice to go and stay for a weekend. Thanks Shea and Erin!

While we were in Roanoke we went to the annual kite festival. Who knew, right?

The kite festival was actually really cool. Tons of people were there, and they were giving shirts and free kites to the children. This is our friend with his son.

The free kites were little more than flimsy kroger branding, but they did the kite trick for that day. Natalie thought it was cool

They had some huge kites out there, like this giant penguin.

And then they got this giant octopus up in the air too.

They also had an american flag ceremony and had lots of people get around this flag and hold it up while they played the national anthem and a number of other super patriotic songs. It felt good to be there and feel a spirit of togetherness and worship.

They let kids run under the flag too. It was neat to see the wind billow up the flag.

They made balloons at the kite festival. That thing is supposed to be a flower.

We also went to this dairy farm at Roanoke. They had a restaurant inside.

The food, and especially the icecream, was really good.

The dairy farm even had a petting zoo out back that Natalie had fun at.

I actually don’t know when this picture happened, but I think we can safely assume Tonya took Natalie and Hazel and went to a park with Heidi and Aiden.

This was a Saturday morning when we just decided to go to the park. Natalie woke up at like 7:00am, came into our room and said, “park, park.” So we went. I decided to take Natalie in the bike trailer. Tonya took this picture when she drove up beside me–Hazel’s car seat doesn’t fit in the bike trailer.

So Natalie actually climbed up this wall by herself. It has the rock climbing hand hold things. It’s not very far but I was super impressed that she was able to do it.

1. I planted an avocado pit when I was 9. I think we just planted it in dirt. They usually get to be around 3 feet with a layer of big leaves on top, but mine is still going strong and is only encumbered by the ceiling. (Actually I think my mom put it outside because she was sick of it.) So you might just stick it in dirt. Or I might just not remember how to do it. I’ll ask my Gramma and report back 🙂 I like getting my tips from Gramma over the internet if I can 🙂
