What I think of Spain

Our Airbnb

We arrived in Spain yesterday and we are staying at an airbnb. In the airbnb the bathrooms don’t have locks actually there are no locks except the front door lock. One bedroom is connected to the main room. All you have to do is climb a set of seven stairs and there is no door. Natalie and I sleep on the couches witch isn’t very comfortable mommy said that the older kids (Natalie, me, and Tyrus) maybe could rotate on sleeping on the comfortable bed (that Tyrus is sleeping on right now) and the couches. I would really like that. Another thing I don’t like about the apartment is for some reason the water started being weird and in the bath room the water squirted in my face. I am very glad that this is not the home we have to stay at while were in Spain.

The Subway

The subway platform

Today we went to church. We had to use the subway because we don’t have a car and probably won’t get one because subway travel here is very good. It takes about five minutes to walk to the subway then you get on train 4, the brown one. The stop you get off on is the first stop then you have to get onto train 6, the gray one. Then you get off on the third stop and walk another five minutes to church. (A train comes every ten minutes.) That is the way from this Airbnb.

Inside the subway train

When a train comes close you can hear it from the tunnel so it sounds like a big creature is coming and the tunnels are pitch black so when a train comes it looks like the lights of the train are white glowing eyes. Then I feel like I need to run even though I know it’s just a subway train. The train is also very very long so it looks cool to look down the train and normally I can’t see the ending when I’m inside.

Church

Church

In primary mostly everybody spoke english so I understood. (I thought one of the reasons we moved to Spain is so my siblings and I can learn Spanish but we can’t do that if everybody’s speaking english to us. Maybe at school more people will speak only Spanish.) They also had cake there because it was three peoples birthdays this month. There was a family from Utah with five kids. One of the kids is nine so about my age and all of the kids speak Spanish cause their dad only talks to them in Spanish. Mommy and Daddy tried doing that but we just went on one of our beach vacations with mommy’s family and they spoke English there so then they just stopped speaking Spanish to us. Anyway they invited us for dinner today and that was fun. They have a nice apartment. They came to Spain four months ago and they are staying for three years. That’s much longer than we’re staying.

primary room

Back to primary, so in primary what we basically did is we sang some songs and watched a video. I didn’t understand the video because it was in Spanish. A teacher summed the video up and told me what it meant. Graces class went to a different room and primary felt shorter than normal. The building is really small it wasn’t even it’s own building it just looked like a brick building packed in with all the other shops. I didn’t even notice it was there at first. The top of the building was the chapel and downstairs was the classes. There wasn’t even any water fountains. But I still like it and even if I didn’t like it I would still have to go every week.

  1. Thanks for the update, Hazel!
You make a very good blogger and I look forward to more pictures and posts. Kudos for staring down the scary subway dragon:-)

  2. Toooooooooooooooot, TTTooooooooooooooooooooottttttttttttttttttt, squeak, screechhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, and air compression stop noises.
Isn’t riding the subways fun? That is one of my favorite ways to travel in cities. I learned that dragon in THai language is mong gong, since I ate dragon fruit there. We are back home in Utah now, but I am making blogposts of our trip to Thailand and Cambodia . Your whole family can view the posts and see if there are any similar things you will see in Spain this upcoming year.

  3. Hazel, I love your blog! I’m sorry you are not comfortable in the room you are in. Just remember it’s temporary. I’m sure you will find a very nice apartment long term and you can settle in comfortably.I really like having the metro (that’s how you say subway in Spanish). I could go anywhere in the city without having to drive. Eventually I learn how to navigate thet train system too and I know how to go anywhere in the ocuntry. There is so much to see and do in Spani. Do and see as much as you can while you are there. Did you know that the castle that inspired the castle in Disneyland is in Segovia, Spain? It’s just a short train ride from Madrid. See, do and learn, all you can.
