The Tingens

December

Christmas in Madrid is very merry and bright–Christmas decorations and trees in every plaza, along every major thoroughfare, and even on the metro.

Tyrus’s grade had a field trip ice skating at a rink at Colón plaza, and he enjoyed it so much he wanted to go with our family, so we did that the first day of winter break.

Jacob and I had a date with another couple from church, who took us to a Galician restaurant for the typical Spain experience–noisy, crowded, full of people talking talking talking, meal lasting for hours. After we ate there we went to another place on an outdoor terrace to get desserts, in our case smoothies and mocktails (I love a virgin mojito!). We met up between 830 and 9 and didn’t get home until between 12 and 1, typical for Spain 🙂

On our date the couple told us about a typical thing that people do around here, which is they get dressed up in sparkly headbands and even outfits etc and go to Plaza Mayor, where there are Christmas shops set up.

So the next day we went (the one with the red building and the red tree).

One Sunday we decided to go to a ward in the suburbs that someone had invited us to because there are a lot of Americans there. That was when we saw the Christmas train on the metro, which was a pleasant surprise 🙂

  1. Thanks for sharing. Those are great photos and experiences to share. The ice skating looks fun too. And cold. The Christmas Train looks really cool. I’m glad we got to ride that train too. Yea for December festivities and family fun.
    Keep the fun coming.
